Twice as Cute
In Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Larry and Diane Kutcher welcome the birth of twin boys. Christopher Ashton Kutcher follows five minutes after his fraternal brother Michael, who was born with a mild form of cerebral palsy.

In the middle of his parents’ divorce, Kutcher’s twin brother Michael, 13, receives a life-saving emergency heart transplant after suffering from a viral heart inflammation and going into cardiac arrest. “Ashton never left my side,” Michael, now healthy, later tells PEOPLE. “He showed me the love one brother has for another.” Two years later, Kutcher’s mom relocates the family – the twin brothers and older sister Tausha – to Homestead, Iowa, where they eventually move into a new house with stepfather Mark Portwood.

While studying biochemical engineering at Iowa University and working in a General Mills factory sweeping Cheerios dust, Kutcher enters the Fresh Faces of Iowa modeling contest and wins a trip to New York City to pursue a contract with model agencies.
After three days in New York City, Kutcher signs a modeling contract with the Next agency. Soon, the handsome Iowa boy is walking down fashion runways from Paris to Milan and popping up in Calvin Klein jean ads.

While modeling for Abercrombie & Fitch clothing, Kutcher meets fellow model January Jones. After dating for three years, Kutcher and Jones call it quits in 2001.

Kutcher lands the role of the handsome but airheaded Kelso on the Fox series That ’70s Show. The show, a satirical throwback to comedies of the 1970s, requires Kutcher’s character to wear bellbottoms and vintage shirts while sporting a long feathered haircut.
With his TV fame growing, Kutcher tries his hand at movies with a small role in Coming Soon, starring Gaby Hoffmann and Mia Farrow. He continues his film career with two more small roles in Down to You and the box office flop Reindeer Games the following year.
His model good looks earn Kutcher a spot on PEOPLE’s annual 50 Most Beautiful People In the World list. “He’s got very nice lips,” ’70s costar Mila Kunis tells PEOPLE. “He’s also got nice deep eyes, nice bone structure and a toned body. He’s a hottie.” Kutcher will reappear on the list in 2003.

Kutcher plays to his ’70s Show type in Dude, Where’s My Car? with Seann Williams Scott, as two potheads who retrace their steps after a crazy blackout night. Panned by critics, the slacker comedy earns $41 million its first month at the box office.

Kutcher starts a nine-month relationship with actress Ashley Scott from the TV series Dark Angel. Of their parting, Scott later tells PEOPLE they were both “going in

Kutcher and Brittany Murphy enjoy box office success with their romantic comedy Just Married. Off-screen, the two stars wear their movie wedding bands but deny engagement rumors. After five months, Kutcher and Murphy call it quits. Before the break, Kutcher tells PEOPLE that “Brittany will forever be my first wife.”

Kutcher takes a crack at fellow celebrities (including Justin Timberlake, left) with Punk’d, the MTV version of the old hidden camera trick. For the series, the actor tries on all three hats as cocreator, coproducer and host, but it’s his trucker hats that ignite a fashion trend. After two successful seasons, the jokester abruptly ends Punk’d, but the joke is on the fans. The show’s third season is announced on April Fools 2004.
Kutcher invests in an Italian restaurant, Dolce Enoteca, which opens up in West Hollywood. Other celebrity partners include Danny Masterson and Jamie Kennedy. The star power and modern Italian cuisine combination proves successful and leads to several more locations in Atlanta and Reno.

From Ashton’s eatery in L.A. to Diddy’s yacht in Miami, onlookers take notice of Kutcher and a new woman in his life – Demi Moore, who is 15 years his senior. A witness tells PEOPLE that the two stars shared a “very romantic” kiss outside a Miami restaurant.

The actor surprises unfriendly critics with the success of his sci-fi thriller The Butterfly Effect, costarring Amy Smart (left). Making nearly $58 million at the box office, the film portrays Kutcher as a college student who keeps going back in time to fix his friends’ lives.
The 2005/2006 season of That ’70s Show goes on without regulars Kutcher and costar Topher Grace. After seven seasons, the two decide to pursue their film careers but make guest appearances on the show.

The actor moves up the ladder to executive producer in his new WB show Beauty and the Geek, a reality series that matches beautiful women with intelligent but awkward men.

After months of rumors, Kutcher and Moore tie the knot. The high profile couple marries in a Kabbalah ceremony at their home in Beverly Hills. Kutcher takes on the role of step-dad to Moore’s three daughters from her earlier marriage to Bruce Willis. The girls nickname their new parent “MOD,” short for “My Other Dad.”

Kutcher teams up with Kevin Costner in the Coast Guard action drama The Guardian (left). When the film opens, Kutcher nabs the two top spots at the box office with The Guardian and the animated movie Open Season, in which he voices an one-horned mule deer.

Kutcher shows off his ‘’super sexy” side in the latest issue of Details, where he discusses his decision to marry Demi Moore at age 27: “I’ve literally just been voted the world’s most eligible bachelor and I’m like, I’m going off the market. I’ve found the one. If I had thought about it I would have been like, ‘Nah, nah.’ But what can you do? When you’re in that deep, you can’t think.” The 30-year-old actor also stars with Cameron Diaz in the romantic comedy, What Happens in Vegas, which opens at No. 3.
